Why Charlie Sheen is Better than Lindsay Lohan

Actor Charlie Sheen is the most known actor in the world right now next to Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.  His crazy antics keep everyone glued to whatever he is doing, and the crazier the scenarios get the funnier we think it is.  Perhaps it has to do with the fact that now we know that Charlie Sheen is just plain crazy and not so much on drugs as everyone thought.

On the other hand, you have pop tart Lindsay Lohan who has had a very similar downfall in the public as Charlie, yet she is going to jail for stealing jewelry and always just seems so miserable.  No matter what the poor girl tries, it all seems to go down the toilet.  If she books a movie role, she gets replaced, if she picks up a design house to use her as a fashion expert, she fails miserably.  


The difference between the two troubled stars is obvious.  One is embracing the limelight and all it's glory, while the other pretends not to like the limelight yet goes to paparazzi filled restaurant so that she can get photographed not being photographed.  


With the age of the web and citizen reality shows, star power had diminished drastically over the years.  Where before celebs could pretend not to like being photographed, stay out of the spotlight all together, and still come out with a hit a few years later, now it is almost impossible.

With "instant fame" being a regular occurrence nowadays, (ahem should I say Justin Bieber), staying out of the spotlight once you have fame is a very bad idea.  The public wants instant gratification and will not wait around till the celeb is ready to once again be part of the limelight.

When you think about why Charlie Sheen is doing so well compared to Lindsay Lohan, know that the way they approach the media is what makes the winner and the loser.  Charlie has come to understand the new age of celebrities which requires celebs to be an open book to their fans while Lindsay's diva behavior is not allowed unless shared. 

If as a celebrity you believe that you are irreplaceable and can keep your life private from the public, you are dead wrong. 

If you want to be in Hollywood, expect for all your dirty laundry to be aired, for paparazzi to follow you, and for the fans that brought you to the top to knock you down if they believe you are not what they want anymore.  As a blogger for Newsweek put it, "What Sheen has exemplified and has clarified is the moment in the culture when not caring what the public thinks about you or your personal life is what matters most—and what makes the public love you even more."
