Amanda Knox, along with her boyfriend, had been convicted of killing her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Italy after apparently having a wild night and attempting to have some ritualistic sex act that ended in Meredith's death.
Amanda and her boyfriend adamantly denied having anything to do with the murder, but were still convicted because of DNA evidence that was captured at the scene of the crime.
However, what held strong during her first trial, fell apart during her retrial. The supposed DNA evidence turned out to be tainted and the prosecutor in the case seemed to have gotten a personal vendetta against Amanda, whom he called among many derogatory names, a "she-devil".
Amanda landed in the USA, to a cheering crowd of supporters who couldn't wait to hear what she had to say. Although physically and mentally shaken, Amanda took to the stand and thanked all her supporters for all their help.
She even tried to relive some of the tension in the press room, by joking that her family had to remind her to not to speak Italian but to speak English.
Amanda told the awaiting crowd:
"I'm really overwhelmed right now. I was looking down from the airplane, and it seemed like everything wasn't real."
"What's important for me to say is just thank you to everyone who's believed in me, who's defended me and who's supported my family. My family is the most important thing to me right now, and I just want to go be with them. So, thank you for being there for me."
