Marie Osmond finally opened up about her son's Michael Blosil suicide on an interview with The Oprah Show. She got very candid with Oprah as she gave a heartwrenching interview where she opened up about her son's depression, her own, and how she has been able to cope with her sons tragic death.
Michael Blosil, Marie Osmond's son, called a friend the night of his suicide and said, I have a note for you on my bed, and then proceeded to jump out of his 8th floor condo in Los Angeles.
The night of his suicide, Marie Osmond was backstage of her show in Las Vegas. She had received a call from Michael that tragic night, but she could not get to it because she had to rush off to be on stage.
She tells Oprah:
"I was just running out as my phone rang, I couldn't get to it because I was miking up. As I was walking out he called my daughter Rachel, and they talked for a few minutes and then I said good tell him I'll call him after I get done with the meet and greets. And then he never picked up the phone."
Oprah also asked Marie if she could share what the note Michael left said, and she sadly said with tears in her eyes:
"He basically said that he knew it was the last morning he would get up and brush his teeth, eat breakfast, make his bed, get dressed, those kind of things. He had made his decision I guess. That he loved his family but the pain was so intense."
Marie revealed that he had tried to kill himself when she was doing "Dancing with the Stars", or as she jokingly calls it 'Dancing with the Starved'. She admits to having been going through a bitter divorce at the time of the show, a custody battle, her dad had passed away and her sister had gone into rehab. For Marie the walls felt like they were closing in, and her son Michael, being the type of person he was, had decided not to tell his mom about his deep depression so he wouldn't 'burden' her. Marie Osmond notoriously fainted after finishing one of her performances on Dancing with the Stars during this tough time in her life.
Marie Osmond went on to say that she believes that whatever reality her son was going through at the time, it must of been a glimpse of insanity, which Osmond believes happens to everyone at some point in their life. Because of this she believes that he wasn't thinking rational at the time. From what she knew he wasn't depressed at the time of his suicide even though he had suffered from depression before. He also was found not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his suicide.
At the end of this tear-jerking interview, Marie performed a song for her son which she had done at every show after his death. Although she had done the song many times in the past, Marie broke down several times during her performance but in spite all that she ended with a standing ovation.
